CM restresses govt stand, says no land allotted for Sainik ColonyChief Minister Mehbooba Mufti here today reiterated the government’s stand that no land was allotted for setting up Sainik Colony for ex-servicemen in the Valley.
She was replying to questions from media persons on the reopening of the civil secretariat and other Durbar move offices here this morning.
Mehbooba was given a guard of honour by a women contingent of the India Reserve Police at the civil secretariat at 9.30 am. The event was attended by the Council of Ministers and senior civil and police officers, including Chief Secretary BR Sharma and Director General of Police K Rajendra Kumar.
“No land has been allotted for any such (Sainik) colony even though there has been a demand from the state subject ex-servicemen for such a facility,” Mehbooba said in reply to questions.
She said there would be no compromise on maintaining the identity (special status) of the state. “We will go according to the Constitution,” she added.
The CM also took a jibe at National Conference working president and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his statements on the government setting up Sainik Colony. “He (Omar) should not give such statements…. He has also been a Chief Minister,” said Mehbooba.
Expressing concern over the “rumours” being spread over the issue of Sainik Colony, she said they were aimed at creating trouble when the tourist season and business activities had started in the Valley.
